Replaced wireing harness,No crank,code 53
Hello to all and thanks in advance for your help! I have a 89 camaro 305 tbi which had an intermittent miss. after lifting up the engine harness (next to water neck) I descovered the miss went away and the engine ran better. I unwrapped the harness to see if I could spot a damaged or coroded wire but no luck. I tryed to re start to isolate the problem wire and no start! (Car wont crank)After getting nowhere with local car electric shops I decided to get a harness out of a wrecked camaro at a local salvage yard. The donor car is a 92 camaro 305 tbi. My question is what are the diffrences between 89 and 92? I forgot to mention code 53 i belive is overvoltage. Ironically, When i data loged it prior to attempting to start WINALDL showed 0 volts! but my dash lights are on, check engine light goes on then off as normal and I hear the fuel pump prime. (no security light) Turn the key and nothing. I went to the kick panel and grounded the vats switch. I do have power at the solinoid but no power at the purple wire. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks Travis. It looks like the 89 and 92 are slightly diffrent in the wireing to the starter. I dont know how to rectify the problem however, there must be a simple soloution. any ideas? Dave

Re: Replaced wireing harness,No crank,code 53
I just noticed a 10 amp fuse in the 92 wiring diagram for vats.(Located in the fuse box) my 89 dose not have such a fuse circit. Is this why I have no power to the ignition even after bypassing vats by bending the vats switch to always contact/complete the circit? How do I bypass this 10 amp circit in the 92 harness?
Anyone??

if your using your 89 computer and the car didnt have vats then you dont need to worry about it. you just have to repin the 92 harness to match the 89 harness and all should be well.

Thanks travis I think that you are right. Even though my car dose have vats, and the 92 harness has vats, the vats wireing in the 92 harness has the fuse provision and my 89 car dose not and I think that is the problem. Would Re pinning the 92 harness solve that or is that dead end 92 vats wire that is suposed to go to the fuse box need to be redirected to the in/out vats switch? The wireing diagram dose not show the wireing for the 92 vats fuse. It only shows the fuse box with vats fuse.
