The Hatch goes up and down

I have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and I have a button you push to open the hatch and it has worked fine and I have never had problems with it until two days ago and I hit the button and it will go up but then just close again. You can pull up on the hatch but it will no open and I don't know what to do because I can't pull of the panels on the inside without the hatch open. Tell me your ideas on what to do Thanks

Re: The Hatch goes up and down

There is a lever on the back side of the latch that makes contact with a ramp on the way up and rotates 90 degrees to release the latch. The ramp block is attached to the back of the frame with two screws. If either the ramp is missing or if the lever I've previously described is broken or missing the latch will not release the hatch hook. When the pull-down unit reaches the top of the cycle it will immediately reverse and go back down then shut off.

I sell both of these items under the "Hatch Pull Down" category of my web site.
