UH-OH!? Electrical issues!

Hey guys,

I have a 91 z28. I left my windows down and a monsoon hit (not really a monsoon, but dont tell my car that). When i started the car, the auto locks became posessed and then the dreaded smoke from under the dash started rolling out.
There is evedince of melted wires connecting to the fuse box. Now, my wipers, headlights, tail lights, and interior lights are not working and I have no power going to the respective spots on the fuse block itself. i know i need to replace the wires that go to those spots but how far back would you go?
i havent had the time to tear apart all of the tape that is wrapped around the harness(and am not looking forward to it, either) but my question is this....Are these wires fed from the harness that runs in the engine bay? Would it be easier to start there and feed the wires through? I have experience in wiring houses so the job shouldnt be too terrible, just wondering where to start. Thanks for any help you guys have.

P.S I changed 2 of the 3 fusible links that are connected to the starter (wishful thinking i guess). i would have changed all 3 but was under the impression that there were only 2 so I only bought the 2 when at the store, could that third link be an issue here?

Re: UH-OH!? Electrical issues!

to the OP, the fuse block gets all its power from those 3 fusable links, if you replaced 2 and still have things not getting power, then id check that 3rd one.

to bdsg92. the fuel pump and the injectors are controled by the ecm. does the security light on the dash come on and stay on when you turn the key?
