Dimmer switch problem
I recently had problems with headlights in one of my RS's. I changed out the headlight switch and it solved my problems. I had bought a dimmer switch also just in case the headlight switch wasnt the only problem. Today I decided to put the new dimmer switch in so that everything was new ... the old one worked fine though. Problem is....the new one dont seem to work. When I took out the old one, I didnt notice that little metal bracket thing on it. Is that required or is it just a packing part that dont get installed? If it does, which way does it go? The "U" shape face away from the connector or what? If it is needed, I wonder where the one on the old one went? Maybe its up in the wires somewhere? Who knows but I know I didnt see it on the old one. When I click to put the high beams on, it dont want to click. I know it may just need to be adjusted from reading search results here but what about that metal bracket part? Is it needed and what way does it face? Also Id like to know how it works or what it does if anyone knows....that is if its even needed.
for any help in advance. My husband is out of town and this thing is really getting on my last nerve

Re: Dimmer switch problem
Ok, I see that the metal bracket thing shaped like a "U" is just a packing thing. It dont get installed. I guess its used to stop the switch from clicking/switching. Reason why? I dont know. Seems like a waste of material and time IMO. Going to try adjusting it later when the sun comes up. I'll post a pic also later. Why in the world do they put that metal thing in there? Itll really throw ya off if you dont inspect it really good and realize what it does....as for the reason? Id really love to know myself!

Re: Dimmer switch problem
Are you referring to another bracket that is not attached to the switch? Afaik, there should only be the one bracket integral to the switch, that interlocks with the ignition switch and two small bolts fix them both onto the column, as per the attached pic.
Sounds like this was an exercise in 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'

Hmm got me there, didn't have that supplied with my new switch. I can't guess what it's function might be - anyone else?

All I can notice is.....it keeps the switch from moving in the package? It seems to lock the switch right at the tension point.....just a hair away from clicking. Oh well....for who it might help......Ya dont need it! lol
