Firebird Headlight motor

Hi,

Just bought this 1991 Pontiac Firebird GTA and when I turn on or off the headlights, they go up and down fine but one of the motors will keep spinning for about 30 seconds after it went up or down. After some close examination I found a wire that was grounded to the frame on one end but the other end is just frayed wiring. It is located right behind the frame that the headlight is attached to and the exact same wire is on the other side which is the side with the correct working headlight motor. My only thought is maybe its some ground to help the motor know when to stop spinning? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Firebird Headlight motor

Sounds like you just need a motor rebuild. sometimes the plastic bearing that make the motor work will become brittle and break over time. it happened to me where the motor will spin but it didnt engage the light to go up without help. i have the same problem on my junkyard set of motors but im waiting on them to go out to replace them with my already rebuilt ones.
hope this is what your looking for.
this is the set i used awhile back works great just takes a bit of force to put them in.

Re: Firebird Headlight motor

Ok thanks for the reply. The motor does bring up the headlight just as fast and easy as the other one just the motor will keep running after the light is all the way up or down. Is this still the same problem with the motor?

And for this rebuild thing, what exactly am I suppose to do?
