My fans stopped working a few weeks ago, and I just finally had a weekend of sunny weather to take a look at them.

The first problem I found was that in my engine bay the power wire with the 20G fusible link on the drivers side was incorrectly connected with a "twist and some electrical tape"... over the years the heat and oxidation had caused the wire to basically crumble as I pulled it apart. The rest of the wire looked good, so I soldered a new connection between the too and shrink wrapped her appropiately. There are lots of jerry-rigged connections like this in my car that I have been repairing, slowly.

Anyway, I'm doing this using a less than adequate (imo) Haynes manual. On the "Heating and air conditioning system" for 1987 and earlier V8's, it doesn't really list this red wire / 20G fusible link going to a relay. It just has it on the diagram. It also shows a "light green/dark green" wire for the A/C clutch. My new relay says I can solder one of the wires from the unit to a A/C clutch wire to operate it manually when my "AC turns on"... my car's air conditioning system was removed during an engine swap years ago..



This is mounted behind my brake fluid on the driver's side.

So my question is - is this green wire connected to this relay what I'm looking for? Also, is there any way I could even remove/bypass this thing? In some of the "carbed motor pics" I don't see these even mounted.

from what i find, thats the throttle kick relay. it bumps the idle up on carbed cars when the ac comes on so the added drag doesnt cause the engine to stall and die. the green wire there was originally wired into the ac clutch as a trigger wire.

 

I actually found those tonight and have been combing through them, but didn't find anything. However I think I found it, and it's where you are! Idk why I didn't see that in my haynes manual.. then again not surprised.

One of the previous owners that did the wiring spliced wires together that are more often than not different colors. AKA, a green wire turning into a purple one with a shitty splice job wrapped in electrical tape.
