Possible faulty ground?

I've been experiencing a few electrical issues in my 89 formula. Everything electrical seems to be off. The new radio has to be turned way up to hear, the oil pressure and voltage gauge seems to be off, the window wipers and electric windows are extremely slow, and for some reason it keeps blowing the fuel pump relay fuse (which is also for the ecm and oil pressure sensor).

Is this a sign of a bad ground? The battery and alternator are fairly new so I can't imagine its either one of them. The only things that work properly are the lights, speed, teach, and headlight motors. Any thoughts or similar situations? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Possible faulty ground?

The windows in these cars are always really slow to thats not going to change. A bad ground could definitely cause a low voltage issue. I would start by checking all your major power/ground cables from the battery to alt (+), battery to starter (+), battery to engine block (-), engine block/battery to chassis (-).

A short would cause the fuse to blow but a bad + connection somewhere could also cause the low voltage. This is just one of those times you need to check and trace wires. There are a lot of diagrams on here as well as at Austinthirdgen.org

alright, thanks. ill be checking out a few things this weekend. the main reason I'm stuck on this is because of that fuse! just randomly blows, usually after a longer trip. thinking of replacing the relay since they're cheap and it seems that might be the problem.

Re: Possible faulty ground?

have you found what was causing the problem for you? I have similar problem with my GTA, all of a sudden the voltage gauge reads low and oil pressure reads low, also my radio doesnt work, it seem to have some type of power to it with the key off, just the power button lights up. And ones I try to turn it ON, the dome lights flicker and I hear some clicking noise from the engine bay. Radio worked as I was driving then just went off. The gauges reading low was already there, also the windows go up and down slower than usual. I have no idea what it could be.

It wasn't something that I worried about too much because the car runs fine and everything works, just slower than it should. So I never did figure out. If you find something, let me know though! If I had to guess, I'd say there's a problem with your engine to firewall ground. Keep in mind I really don't know a lot about electricity. lol
