1984 E4ME Carburetor and Smog (Air Injection) Wiring Help?

I have searched for hours and looked at many wiring diagrams, but still have not found all the answers.

Due to emissions, I am trying to make sure my car has all right pieces in working order.

When I bought my 1984 L69 5 spd, it was missing the E4ME Carburetor (Replaced with Edelbrock Carb), Egr Valve (Capped off) and some emissions (Cansiter Control Valve and Purge TVS).

I now have all those pieces and need help with identify the wiring. Here is what I have:

Wires running down the middle/top of driver side valve cover:

#1
: AC compressor wires (Green wire to Square Plug, then black wire to round plug)
#2
: Coolant Temp Guage Sensor on connector to passenger engine head? (Green Wire to rectangle plug)
#3: Electric throttle kicker (idle solenoid)? (The wire it blue into a rectangle plug. Not dark or light, but a medium blue)

(See attached picture with three wires)

Unknown Relay:

What is this relay? I found it on the passenger side zipped tied to the fuel lines running along the bottom of the frame to the side of engine. It says 10039961 (US pat 432036, US Pat 45462) 5168. It has four wires coming out of bottom of it. The plug has two rows. The top row has a black wire by itself. The bottom rows has three wires (black, Large red wire, brown/white wire)

(See attached picture)

Wiring on passenger side:
#4:
Mixture Control ( On Carburetor)? Two prong black round plug (Tan/blk and Green Wires)
#5:
Backup- Switch/Light? Goes in side of Manual Transmission. Two prong black round plug (Green and Blue wire)
#6:
02 Sensor? One prong black round plug (Purple wire. Long enough to go across engine to 02 sensor on driver side.)
#7:
Idle Speed Solenoid (On Carburetor)? Three prong black round plug (Black, Blue, (Gray or Tan) wires)
#8:
Coolant Sensor (Thermostat Housing)? (Yellow and Black wires)
#9:
No Clue/Strange? Black and Brown wire connected to a black wire that is being grounded at Alternator bracket
#10:
No Clue? Two prong black round plug (Tan/blk and black wires)
#11
: No Clue? Broken two prong white plug (Three wires (Pink/blk and (black and brown wires together) wires)
#12:
No Clue? Broken two prong black square connector (Green and Black wires)
#13:
Map Sensor on Passenger side fire wall above engine? Three prong black round plug (White/red, gray and black wires)
#14:
EGR Solenoid Valve? Two prong white round plug (Pink/blk and gray wires)

(See attached picture with ten wires)

EGR solenoid valve:

This is the EGR solenoid valve. Not sure what goes in the side of it. I am guessing a hose. There are a couple of hoses on the other side of this pic that goes to the EGR and carb, but not sure about what is marked in the picture.

(See attached picture with valve and EGR valve in background)

I have two Air Injections that I can use.

Below is the one from the car, 1984 Air injection Pump:

#15:
Not sure if it is the Air Control Solenoid Valve or Air Switching Solenoid Valve? Requires a two prong plug. Not sure which plug to use from the ones I showed above.

(See attached picture)

1987 Air Injection System: If I use this one I am not sure which wires to hook them up too.
#17:
No Clue? Maybe TVS Purge? It says Delco Remy on top, (Dr 162 and D 176 on side). Two prong black round plug. (Pink/blk and Green/yellow wires)
#18:
Canister Control Purge Valve?

Thank you.....

Re: 1984 E4ME Carburetor and Smog (Air Injection) Wiring Help?

My 84 is not completely together right now or I could run out and check for you. Some of the pics I took as I tore it down are here and may help some:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...urrection.html

I have some more that I can hunt through if you need.

When I rebuilt the wiring harness for an 87 a few years back, I found it easier to pull the ECM and trace all of the wires by continuity while referring to an ECM pinout. The ECM harness is completely separate from the engine harness and runs through the right fenderwell.

Anyway some answers:

That relay doesn't look factory.

Temp GUAGE sensor goes to driver's side head (engine harness thru bulkhead connector near booster.

The fan temp switch goes to the opposite cylinder head and is part of the engine harness. It has a connector similar to the KS connector (which is below it on the block). The KS connector comes out of the ECM harness though.

#7 The Mixture Control Solenoid (MCS) plug (two wire), CTS and TPS won't connect anywhere else (at least within reach).

The VAC sensor (left side) and the BARO (#13) sensor (right side) look identical but the VAC should have a small hard plastic vacuum line connected to it. The plugs will be identical but the BARO sensor plug shouldn't reach far enough to fit (and won't have the vac line along side it in the convoluted tubing.

#9 may be the ECM ground (there may be more than onen)

#14 is right, I really can't see the other ones well in the pic.

EGR solenoid has one two-wire connector and a vacuum line to it from the right front of the carb and from it, to the EGR valve.

#17 is the 87-only electronic purge valve. You can't use it.

#18 is the 87-later heater bypass valve. It shuts off hot water to the heater coil when AC is on. You can't use it with out the 87-later AC control head that passes vacuum to it when AC is on.

#19/20 are the solenoid switches for the 87 AIR. Can't help you here. The AIR is not on my '87 and is boxed up somewhere in the shed. I seem to recall that the connectors were different from earlier models though.

Let me know how else I can help or confuse.

1. Appears to be the diode connection for the compressor. Diagram in pic #1.

2. Fits your description.

3. Kicker solenoid.
