Possible short?

Its either that or my alternator.

I was wandering how I would go about finding my problem specifically.

For example if it was my radio and I unplugged it how would I know if it was that or not?

Could I pull fuses?
I have some bare wires, and there is a connector piece on the back of my block that has two wires coming out of it. The one is cut all the way down, could this cause a short? How would I fix that?

I just need some advice on how to locate a short if there is one.

Any help, like always will be appreciated.

Thank you!
