need some diagrams for electric hatch

so its about that time that i get to take the body harness out of my 85 and swap it to my 92 you may ask why im doing this well simple because the 85 has power but the hatch mechanism is different than the 92's. so question is how can i get the 92's hatch mechanism to wire up to the 85;s harness? and how can i use the 85's switch to work on the manual opening mechanism? does that make sense? if anyone can help me id appreciate it diagrams would be best

Re: need some diagrams for electric hatch

I managed to get a hatch release to work in my '83 Z/28, using a modified harness from an '85 Firebird (dash and rear harness). It's not that difficult, you're basically using a relay (any 12V accessory relay will work) that routes 12V power to the rear hatch release, and a switch that completes a 12V circuit energizing the coil in the relay by grounding thru the switch. You should also route the circuit thru the neutral safety circuit so the hatch can only be opened in Park, but this is not necessary...just a good idea. The hatch release itself grounds to the body at the rear of the car, I used a self tapping metal screw to do so on my car. I have both the original print of the Haynes manual (with the old much more detailed style diagrams) and the current later style Haynes manual (with the simplified diagrams). I can make copies of each tonight for both the '85 and '92 cars, and post them if it helps. I don't think you'll need them, the circuit really is rather simple.

I dont think the power hatch its self will mount to it as the bolts holes are in a different location all together. Might want to see if the motor bolts to the body first or you will need to cut a bracket out of another car and weld it in. Im not 100% sure of this tho. Im gonna be putting one in my friends 82 come spring and the mounting holes dont even come close to lining up or being on the right angle. I know 91 -92 ones where smaller so that might work for you
