Hypertech temp switch
Hypertech temp switch
Trying to help a friend.
He has an '88 Iroc he put a turbo Buick V6 into. He is using the factory style temp switch to control when the fans turn on and off..... summit sells a hypertech fan switch as a drop in replacement for the factory fan switch that is supposed to cut the fans on when it heats above a certain temp, and turn them off once it falls below a certain temp. This sucker doesn't cut them on until it goes over 200 deg and they never cut off.... car can be down to 120 deg and the fans still run.... pull the connector off and ohm it out.... the internal switch is still made (closed)..... let it sit overnight.... all is well.... switch is open. Crank it up and it does the same thing...... called summit and raised cane.... they sent another switch..... it does exactly the same thing.
Any ideas....
I believe this is the model that is supposed to cut on at 176 and off at 166.
The part is so simple I can't imagine how we could have the thing screwed up. It is just one wire. It grounds that wire when the temp gets above the setpoint.... and ungrounds it when it falls below the cut off point.
ideas?
I would not think we got two bad units in a row, but I don't see how we could have this thing wired wrong..... the switch is hooked up like the factory... through a fan relay and all.
edit.... he is wanting to control his electric water pump with it.... not fans. Same principle.... he wants the water pump to automatically cut on at 176 and off at 166..... he is controlling his fans with the FAST XFI.

Re: Hypertech temp switch (fans)
depending on the ecm he is using if any you didnt state it may be able to control a fan relay. You could always use a stock tbi f-body switch but I think the close at 226 or so. Another alternative would be derale or comparable unit.
Re: Hypertech temp switch (fans)
He is runnning a FAST XFI and he is actually wanting to run his electric water pump with the temp switch..... i.e cut on at 176 and cut off at 166...... just like it would control fans. He has his fast controlling the fans. He wants the water pump to continue to run (if it needs to) after a run with the car shut off in the pits......
