I recently acquired an msd 6al and will be hooking up very soon. The only problem I have with the wiring is the harness to connect to the pickup inside the distributor is cut and the connector is no longer there. I was also given the distributor to go with it and there is a home made harness installed but again no connector and nothing to indicate which wires connect to what. From the research I have done it seems to be 50/50 on whether reversing the wires makes a difference.

Does the distributor you are going to use have an external or internal coil?

Can you give any parts numbers?

 

It has an internal coil. It is an hei distributor
I don't have the part number for the distributor. But it is a proform distributor

 

Is your 6al a digital or analog?

I would read through this and see what resembles what you found in your car.

To answer your question it is an analog box.
I tried to take the pics with my phone and post with my phone but that doesn't seem to work however tech support from msd informed me that the green wire from the box goes to green in the distributor at the pickup coil and violet write goes to white/yellow.
So I will be hooking this up and seeing how it goes.
