vats problem how to fix

Ok so I have a issue with secruity on my car the light is always on I've tried the bypass with the resistors test it with the key and still did not wprk. I then check the wires coming from the ignition from the key and noticed I was gettin.the right amount of ohms so I ruled out the keys igntion and wires. The only.way I can get it to start is to try to start it then wait four mins then it'll start right up how do I Fix this

how do I Fix this
If it does that , system is working properly but your key is not being read correctly 1st time
Try
Cleaning key contacts,
clean the contacts inside ign switch that read the key ,
get new key cut
then replace ign switch

Is there a safe way to clean contacts in ignition? I have a brand new key and tried it so its not my keys. Its most likely the contacts in the ignition because the lock cylinder looks worn. I have been trying to find a lock cylinder with VATS contacts in them but the ones I find don't say if they are for VATS cars or not. This is the closest thing I found: STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # US161L

Re: vats problem how to fix

three was to fix the vats issues, one the key resister bypass with soldering in the correct value resister into the harness. Two would be too get a vats bypass frequency module and the third way is to reprogram out the vats in the eprom located in the memcal in the ecm.

Re: vats problem how to fix

I found a website of a guy that completely bypasses the system from the output signal from ecm here is website http://newrockies.ca/

Do you think it will work for me im not sure if its a scam or not but 200 bucks to completely remove system sounds good to me.

I'm been having the same issues for a few months now. There are 2 wires that are hooked to the ignition inside the steering column and are notorious for becoming faulty and loose. This is where you problem might be at. What I'm been doing the past couple of months is move the steering column up and down a couple times and this works for me.

Best thing you can possibly do with VATS is replace the tumbler set every 2 years if the car is used a lot simple as that. The main problem is the wires on the back of the tumbler breaking or chaffing. I have a 97 camaro and had another Trans am and all I do is replace tumbler every few years and have never had a vats related problem.

you can't afford 70-80 bucks every 2 years for a tumbler set ??

sure the resistor thing might work and you wont have problems, that is until a thief steals it in a minute.
