where can i hook up an aftermarket fuel gauge

i know my stock fuel gauge is bad. i want to tap into a wire so i can run an aftermarket guage. anyone know a convienient place to splice. i dont want to take my dash apart or splice where the fuel pump wires go thru the back seat area. there are wires running under my console and behind the radio/a/c controls. i just dont know which to tap into.

Sure the gauge it self is at fault?
Sender unit in tank usually gives problems 1st.
Make sure the sender is working before installing a aftermarket gauge that uses the same ,possibly faulty sender input

is there a convienent place to check with an ohm meter? i know the sender is like a mechanical resister and the fuel gauge is like an ohm meter

Here’s how to test the fuel gage.

Remove the sender wire going to the gage.

It’s the same
purple wire referenced below* you will use if you decide to add a new gage.

Tape the removed sender wire so it can’t short.

Connect a 47Ω resistor to the gage where you removed the sender wire.

Connect the other end of the resistor to ground.

Turn the key to RUN.

If the gage is good it will read about ½ way.

So, if the gage is good, you know the problem is the sender or the wiring going to it.

*Behind the dash on the left side of the car there is a connector.

Cut the
purple wire (but leave enuff to resplice in case you cut the wrong one) and connect that wire to your new gage.

Happy Racing!

The sender wire (purple wire) travels from the connector located behind the left rear seat to the back of the dash.

Wherever you tap into it or reroute it is up to you.

Electrically it makes no difference.
