Gauge cluster fuse keeps blowing

Hi guys, my gauge cluster fuse keeps blowing whenever I reach hard throttle above 3k rpms. Everytime with out fail it will happen. It only started two days ago and no changes were made to the car except for a basic carb tune. The car has a non cc 305 HO. I had a problem with this fuse blowing last year and it was because of the cruise control wire under the dash. No problems since until now. Any ideas guys?

Re: Gauge cluster fuse keeps blowing

Update: Now the fuse is blowing 4 out of 5 times with it just being in the "key on" position. I thought it had something to due with the electric choke because everytime the fuse would blow, the choke would come on and stay on. I have the power wire for the choke in line with the gauge fuse in the fuse box. I have cut power to cruise control and the chime module as well as the Brake warning lamp and check engine lamp. The radio's my next step..Any input? Should I move this post to the Tech/General section?

The gauge fuse is only like a 10 amp fuse am I correct? Sounds like you're overloading the circuit.

You may need to use a different fuse. Or, you also might need to isolate the choke circuit (wire it independently) and use a 30A in-line fuse.

Yes, it is a 10 amp fuse. I've tried to put a different amp fuse in and they've blown even quicker than the 10 amp fuse. Could wiring the choke in line with the gauge fuse be overloading/shorting the fuse? I had no problems with it for the 4 or so weeks that it's been wired up. If I remember correctly, the only fuses that are actually in function right now that are also in the line of the gauge fuse are the gauge fuse itself, power to the cd player, and power to the electric choke. The other two spots, for the ECM and for my old throttle body set up are obsolete at this point.

Re: Gauge cluster fuse keeps blowing

I would re-trace the wiring, there could be a ground wire making contact.

You might also try test-wiring it with a 20A fuse, and connect the hot directly to your battery. If it still blows the fuse, then it has something to do with your choke and none of the other components, or vise-versa.
