MSD 6AL wiring too short.

Hello I am installing my new MSD 6al in my 84 camaro. I want to mount the MSD ignition box up in the front of the engine bay(drivers side batt box) but the wiring is too short. I have read that I can lengthen the power and ground as long as I upgrade in wire size. My question is can I lengthen the rest of the wires as well? And if I can please add any suggestions.

You should be fine to extend them. I know a lot of people who have done it, just up the wire one size to be safe.

On a side not what does "onthedownlow" mean where you are from, because I am guessing it is a very different thing here.

Re: MSD 6AL wiring too short.

Midias,

Thanks for your reply. I'm from up in Canada. Onthedownlow up here simply means I do things on the quiet, or low profile, below the radar. For example if I were to buy a stolen tv from a guy I would say to him "keep it on the down low" another words I wasn't here. I googled it and can see what you must have thought. Wikipedia described it as a subculture of men who usually identify as hetero but who have sex with men. This link to urban dictionary has my usage of on the down low..http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...e%20down%20low Can say I never heard of that before today. I am actually getting married on Aug 04. I just showed my fiancee the meaning on google and she is still laughing at me. lol Wondering if I can change my username. Going to get started on the MSD. Thanks again.

No problem I saw the name and I felt the need to ask

Good luck with the MSD and make sure you have at least 10 gauge for the batter + and - wires.

Also I just installed mine, I used a MSD distributor but if you have questions let me know.

Re: MSD 6AL wiring too short.

Just an update I found this in the 6AL manual

General Wiring Information

Wire Length: All of the wires of the MSD Ignition may be shortened as long as quality connectors are used or soldered in place. To lengthen the wires, use one size bigger gauge wire (10 gauge for the power leads and 16 gauge for the other wires) with the proper connections. All connections must be soldered and sealed.
