headlights are acting funny. Trans Am

Ok, not my headlights are acting funny. When I push the switch to turn them on they wont go up but the lights come on HOWEVER if I push the switch and hold it in the midway position before it locks into position the motors come on and push the light up. Also, I have one headlight that moves fast then other. Anyone know what could be causing these problems???

Re: headlights are acting funny. Trans Am

The bushings inside the gear of the headlight actuator are bad. Many sources exist for aftermarket replacement bushings made of Delrin. I too make a kit that repairs this problem. TDS 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit, $20.25. The kit contains 6 CNC machined Delrin bushings, two side-cover gaskets, one motor gasket, two screws & nuts (often the screws that hold on the motor to the actuator houaing snap off their heads), a packet of synthetic grease and a detailed instruction sheet. If this is the first time the repair has ben made, the bushings are what you'll need, since that was the weak-link in the headlight actuator system. If a repair was already made previusly, then you may need a gear.

But would this cause both headlights to function like this even when I can hold the switch is a just before being locked postion?
