installing a toggle switch??

HI. i have a 1986 iroc. and i have some LED lights that i want to work off of a toggle switch. i watched a vid on how to use a fuse tap..but dont know where i can plug the fuse tap in on the fuse box. i do have some empty slots ,,but im not sure if it is safe to plug into any of those,,thats why im asking. i dont know too much about wiring.just very basic knowledge.thanks for any replies at all....ps...and what size fuse would be recommended for the fuse tap? 10 amp? 15? 20? does it matter?

A wire of a certain size ( gauge ) is rated to carry a set amount of current so fuse must be lower than that amount
so it blow first and protects the circuit ( the whole reason for a fuse )
A 30A fuse on a wire rated for 10A means the wire will burn out ( and possibly your car with in ) before the fuse will ever blow

So fuse choice is based on wire size which is based on how much load is on that circuit.
If you run a motor that draws 10A on wiring that is rated at 3A then you will also problems

LED Sled

The average LED draws a hundredth of an amp therefore unless you’re using a huge quantity, use the BAT terminal on the fuse block.

The BAT terminal is protected with a 20 amp fuse already in your car.

If you’re using fine wire for the hookup you can install a small inline fuse for the LED line at the BAT terminal.
