Remote trunk latch issue

My 91 camaro RS has an electronic pull down trunk latch mechanism that can be opened remotely with my keys.

Awhile back my friend slammed the trunk, which broke the plastic gear inside the housing that pulls the trunk closed and somehow managed to keep the motor running constantly.

Since my trunk was pretty damn close to being closed I disconnected the wires in back to cut power to the motor and started using the key.

Now I finally got some time and cash to fix the issue and need help figuring out why the motor wont shut off and why the latch of my trunk falls back into the locked position after I open the trunk with the key.

I can post pictures if anyone thinks it could help.

Thanks in advanced

Re: Remote trunk latch issue

I'm not sure if it is the same as the older ones but, if it is you should see a little black button that is at the top of the latch mechanism and chances are it is either stuck in the on position or it is shorted.

Re: Remote trunk latch issue

The latch does have that little black switch but the motor doesn't switch off in either position. Would this mean that I need a new unit?
