Car: pontiac firebird trans am 1984
Engine: 5.0 v8 H.O
Transmission: auto
Axle/Gears: 700R4 auto overdrive
safe to start car

hi i have just striped the interior but left the dash in and unpluged the connections to the centre console will it be alright to put battery in and start the car also there is a brown wire what has come out as i see a brown wire from the radio does it go there thanks

Need to know more about the car. Year, model, engine, trans etc. If it's an auto, do you still have the auto shifter hooked up? If not, you prob can't start it because of the neutral safety switch not being hooked up.

hi the car is a 1984 trans am 5.0 v8 h.0 and its an auto the only thing taken out is the centre console the front and rear seats and carpet and a bit of trim and thats for now cheers

I don't see why not, "brown" is generally not a power wire, but as it may be "hot" with key, i'd keep it away from any metal. Did the brown wire come from by the radio or down by the shifter?

Also, check out the Pontiac Owners Club UK web site. (Click the link). They'll have local "friendly" MOT inspectors who can help you out if needed, as well as info on car shows, local meets, etc.

hi i think the brown wire has come from the radio . the reason is the only wire missing is from the radio is brown because the from the radio there is the live wire but no negatkive witch is a brown wire into a conecttor

Then go ahead and fire it up. It'll either start, not start, or start an electrical fire!! haha No, I think you'll be fine trying to start it up though with a carb, may take a few cranks if it's been sitting for a while.
