90 Iroc speedo acting erratic
hello all,
So here goes... I let my car sit up for years, and when I got it running again the speedo had stopped working. I took the cluster out and cleaned all of the connections (they all looked clean anyway), and reinstalled the speedo. This did not fix my problem. I then removed and reinserted the small electrical board next to the speedo, and damned if it didnt work great for months. So anyway, after a little incident with a ditch that damaged my passenger fender and chin spoiler; i get in the thing to drive it today and guess what... No speedo again. I was wondering if this could be a ground problem that is only affecting the speedo? I also now have a strange humm through my stereo when I turn on my headlights that was not there before. The thing will bounce sitting still, and then it just wont register at all. And yes I have read plenty of articles that pertain to cable driven speedos, but there is not much on diagnosing the electrical speedos. Is there a main dash harness ground in that area, and where is it located? Could the weird headlight humm through the stereo be part of this? The grounds by the battery look good and are tight. Any help is appreciated guys.

Monitor the speedometer signal with an audio amplifier to make sure it’s getting a steady signal.
Connect the amp’s input to the gray wire pin 8 going to the dash at the dash connector on the right as you would a CD player.
Ground to ground, the signal wire to the inner wire of the audio amplifier wire.
The next time the speedometer fails note if the signal stopped.

If My Engine Has An Illegal Part, And The Inspector Doesn’t Hear It, Does It Make A Sound?
