VATS from Hell

So I just bought a 92 Camaro and only issue it not being able to drive it since vats kills the car. At 1st I used the omh meter and I saw 0.949 So I went to radio shack. Did not work. So I found a tutorial online I been using the wrong setting.

Switch to 20k and get a reading of 6.04k. Same thing went to radio shack got the assortment pack. I got the resistors down to 6.05k with 2% diff. So it should work. I cut the orange wire to add the resistors to.

Orange wire - With resistor bridged - Did not work
Orange wire - With resistor bridged reversed - Did not work

Orange Wire to stock plug + resistors bridged from (White to White) - Did not Work

Resistor not connected to orange but connected to were orange plug connect to (don't remember the colors of wire) I think it was green and purple also did not work.

The value of the orange wire changed from -0.9xx to -6.04k depending which resistors I was using. But once I set every thing back to stock the wire still had those values. Inserted key with no resistors and worked. Value of -0.9xx to -6.04k in orange wire depending which resistors I was using before going back to stock. What could be wrong?

Since the key has a resistance of 6.04k and I'm adding resistors of 6.05k will vats think its 12.09k?

Re: VATS from Hell

Did you still have the connector still plug in to the steering column because if you did the resistor in the key and the one you soldered in will either double the value (in series) or if they're in parallel the total resistance will be cut in half either way it won't read the correct resistance and is the reason why the key without the resistor works.
Oh you have to solder the resistor between the 2 wire (purple and white) and not just insert it just one or the other and leave unplugged.

Re: VATS from Hell

Right now I have everything back to stock. The resistors are in series. I didn't solder them just yet. I wanted to make sure they worked fine. So it doesn't matter which white wire I choose from the Orange to bridge with purple right? Reason why I ask is when I wanted to put back to stock I didn't know which white wire goes with what other white. Car did not start until I whiched the white wires around again.

Re: VATS from Hell

I did mine years ago and just unplugged the connector and put the resistor between the two wires on the vats control module side not steering wheel side. There were on two wires so as long as you don't plug it back to the steering wheel it should work, not sure what you're talking about two white wires there are two wires and one is purple. It's a long time like said not positive of the colors but I'm sure there were only 2 wires.
