no fog lights
I have a 1985 trans am. All my lights work perfect. But my fog lights dont work. I put new fog light assemblys in and a fog light relay in and a new fog light switch. But they will not turn on. So i put a wire up to the driver side dome light that is hot and then i connected that wire to the fog light switch and they worked perfect. So the fog light switch isnt getting hot. Why is my switch not getting hot?

Yes the fuse, the switch and the lamps are good. If i hook a hot wire to it the indicator bulb burns and the lights turn on

First thing you need to do is track down a wiring diagram of the fog light circuit and then start testing for 12V. I think that the switch is powered at all times from a wire from the fuse block. I could be wrong though. You will not be able to correct this problem unless you get lucky and find something or get a mulitmeter and trace the path of DC power from the fuse block to the bulbs.

Re: no fog lights
So you just bypassed everything and powered on the bulbs directly. That tells you that the bulbs are good and the wire to the bulbs is good. That's about it.
Here is the diagram for exterior lighting circuits: http://austinthirdgen.org/mkportal/m...ody_wiring.gif
The fog lights are on the right side, about mid-page.
I would test the brown/white wire on the relay, also the light green and the red wire.
Let us know what you find.

Re: no fog lights
Are you sure that your high beams are not on? The high beam circuit is wired into the foglight circuit and when activated, the coil in the foglight relay is energized which then cuts power to the foglights. Ensure that you dont have the high beams on and if that checks out then check for continuity on both ends of the purple wire. Also ensure that the relay is getting 12 volts at all times.
After re reading what you posted and thinking about this a bit more, I am leaning toward a break in the red.wht wire that powers the relay. There should be a fusable link on that wire. Check that wire for continuity. If the meter dont beep then there is your problem.
