Motors work and crank down automatically but only crank open by hand. The relays click both ways and when the headlights are off they will not let me crank them up, they just keep going back down, when on I can crank them up. Is there a controller on this car to make them go up and down or is it all in the headlight switch. If there is a controller where is it, pics would be good.

 

On the 86 Firebird there are 3 relays that operate the headlights. one is a master relay for both headlights. If they are both doing it that is the problem relay. The other 2 relays are for each headlight. If one light is working properly it is one of those relays. It may seem the relay is working if they go up however the relay reverses polarity to go down as well. All 3 relays are the same part number so they can be swapped around to find out which one is bad. A Haynes manual will be your best friend in fixing this.
