Re: 91 firebird headlights

There's a control unit on the firewall. A black box about 3 inches square. Could be bad but follow wiring and check fuses, relays and grounds. I spent a bunch of time on mine and finally found a bad ground connection under the top panel just forward of the battery (driver's side).

The control is right above the brake booster, there are 2 fuses under the dash to the right f the steering column for the motors. Check grounds first, get a multi meter and see if you even have voltage tob the motors when you hit the switch, same with the lights

Re: 91 firebird headlights

You could but if you don't know what you're doing you could burn out the motors or set something on fire. Or you'd constantly blow fuses. The control box detects when a light has reached the end of its travel and cuts the power to it before any of the above issues occur. The time you'd spend re-rigging it could be better spent fixing it. One thing you could try is open up the control box and check for any broken solder joints or other obvious breakages. Maybe you could fix them. I checked all the circuits several times before I discovered the bad ground forward of the battery. That ground fixed a couple of other things too.
