problems with fuel pump

problems with fuel pump

i have a 1988 camaro rs and i have replaced the fuel pump in it and it worked but then the next day the fuel pump wasnt pumping and i found a inline fuse burned and i put a new one in and it fried the fuse so i tracked the fuse wires to the computer and unplugged them and plugged them back in it doesnt burn the fuse nomore but now the fuelpump runs all the time even with the key off but it doesnt pump any gas whats wrong with it

As to you believing it won’t pump fuel, did you use a pressure gage?

As to it running all the time, pull the pump relay.

The fuel pump relay is the one nearest the booster.

You can identify it by wire colors.

You should find wires there with the following colors:
orange, red, gray, black with a
White stripe, green with a White stripe.

After pulling it, did the pump still run?

No it stopped running after I pulled the relay

You have either a “welded” relay, or a defective ECM.

You can swap the relay to find out if the relay is at fault.

Also, with the key off, when you remove and insert the relay, if you hear the relay *click*, you have a defective ECM.
