Defrost Grid, not all working

Transmission: T56, Mech Speedo
Axle/Gears: G92 J65 3.27
Defrost Grid, not all working
This has probably already been covered but I couldn't find any information in the search.
What causes this? Is there any way to fix it?

I know you can buy a metal marker style pen to reconnect the lines so the defroster will work again. I think you can get them at any auto parts place.

Turn the demister on while the car is in complete darkness. With any luck, you should be able to see the breaks sparking, making it much easier to use the aforementioned pen.
