modded fuel gauge woes...

Alright i have a 4thgen tank since i did my 5.3 swap and got tired of the fuel gauge being off and found the thread on here for changing the resistors in my trans am cluster. i did the mod and just now got around to swapping in the cluster and it doesn't work. If you push the needle to 1/2 or a little more it will slowly max out on the full side. If you do the same the other way it will slowly max itself out to the empty side. Is it possible that i burn part of the circuit board for that servo and its just not a good connection with the resistor or what? i hate to put the dash back together with a still non working gauge.
