The cigarette lighter / rearview mirror interior light / door lock button fuse keeps going out. I have replaced it 3 times now. Usually seems to happen when my phone charger is plugged in the cigarette lighter but the engine is off. Doesnt always happen if I try to recreate the problem though.

Why does this happen and how can I prevent it? Thanks

 

A shorting cigarette lighter is the usual culprit. A search will provide more info.

How do I test that the ciagrette lighter is what's shorting itself out? I took a look at it, from the front and behind, and it didn't look like it was shorting itself out.

It's weird, my horn and side mirror moving controls are also shorted out now. None of the fuses are blown though. I checked them and they're all good.
