My trunk release will only work when the emergency brake is on. Is this normal? I don't seem to remember it being like that before. Even with the e-brake on I sometimes have to hit the button several times to get the trunk to pop open. I am sure it is not the button as I purchased a NOS hatch release button online and it acts the same as the original. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yup,.....

With a T5 you've got to activate the little switch on the brake mechanism inside the center console to complete the circuit. I KNOW this is true when the car is running - can't remember it it's true when the car is OFF.

This little switch is prone to being a bad connection because it's metal to metal contacts that pick up all the crap that falls inside the center console. Cleaning that little switch can help create a better contact,... and sometimes just bending it a little will help !

Re: 1984 camaro berlinetta hatch release issue(s)

John,

Thanks for the info. It explains a lot. The little switch you referred to must be the issue as it will work sometimes and then other times it won't work no matter how many times I try it, then I come back an hour later and it works first try..Will get on it as soon as the snow is gone and I can get to my car. One other thing John, I know you got a ton of berlinetta parts and was wondering if you have the foam backing from the heater pod? All the buttons in the heater pod rattle nonstop and it drives me crazy. The one that was in there was very flat and wasn't working to keep the buttons from jiggling, well I through the worn one out and now the jiggling and rattling is soo bad that last summer I ended up taping the buttons with electrical tape just to shut them up..hahah. If you have a pod that is non functioning but has the foam pad, I would pay for the foam piece right away. Thanks again for your help
