Re: no release from hatch

If you can still open the hatch, take the trim apart and look for loose connectors there.
Possibly the ground is not tight enough back there or has corroded.

Re: no release from hatch

Unfortunately the relay is sitting behind the rear trim.
I also locked myself out a couple of days ago. Was fixing my pull down motor and didn't reattach the unlocking mechanism, so no key helped and no button.

I then folded the rear seat over, reached into the rear to dislodge the compartment louver, pulled it out and then pried off the lamp for the rear compartment.
Behind this is the release mechanism.
If it's not attached, you can push the release lever down and the hatch will unlock.
If it IS attached, you MAY be able to reach the bolt on the upper right of the unlocking mechanism with an angled spanner or something and loosen it enough to remove the mechanism. It'll just fall of more or less.

Edit:
Look at the pic. This is the bolt I mean and the unlock lever behind the assembly would be to the left, just left of that silver stud of the assembly.
At least this is a similar model of hatch pull down motor I have. If you have that brownish plastic thing, I don't know whether this applies.

dude i owe you a beer, i got the hatch open by removing the bolt like you said for the key mechanism. my interior panels are all apart but at least i can reach back there to release the pawl to open hatch. the pull down motor still worked so it must be the switch or wiring going to the motor thanks again

Re: no release from hatch

Um, since when is the release relay behind the rear trim? I could swear it is under the dash on the passenger's side, sandwiched between the dash and the heater module. I believe the one behind the rear trim is for the hatch motor...

OP, it should swap with the horn relay in the convenience center behind the ALDL. If the relay is bad, this should get the release working again if the power is good to the switch and the rest of the wiring is undamaged.
