A/C & Heater not blowing

Got an 85TA with a stock LG4, when i turn on the A/C or heater switch I can hear the clutch turn over. I'm not getting air blowing into the vents. I've check the fuse and it was good. So I'm either thinking the relay is bad, or the blower motor? My question is where would the relay be located under the hood so I can change it out.

Thanks

Re: A/C & Heater not blowing

Prolly not the relay...

Pull the control head out of the dash. On the back of it there will be a harness with about 4 or 5 wires that go one way, and a single brown wire that goes up into the dash by itself. That is the wire that brings 12V to the whole system. Follow it up in there. In about a foot you will come to a connector of the stupidest design imaginable. If you attempt to unplug it, you will find that it is burnt to ashes, like everybody else's.

Cut both halves of it off. Replace it with a pair of the BIG FAT yellow slide terminals. NOT the little weenie ones that are just like the red & blue ones except with a yellow barrel; the BIG FAT HEAVY DUTY kind. Insulated is preferred, otherwise use heat-shrink, or wrap well with tape.

Now that you've seen how stupid that system is, go out and locate the blower motor. Observe the purple wire that plugs into it. Follow that back a few inches to a little silver box. That's the relay. It's fine, leave it alone. But, along with the purple wire, there will be a big fat red one. That one is the 12V feed for the High blower speed. Follow that one; it will lead across the cowl, and right about above the distributor, there will be another similarly stupid connector, probably even MORE burnt to ashes than the one in the interior. Replace it just like the other one.

Well sounds like work for the weekend pulling wire out and see if any wires are damage.

Re: A/C & Heater not blowing

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this was fairly new and relevant to me. I traced my HVAC problems to this connector, and just cut it out and butt connected the wires together for a temporary fix. I get three speeds plus max, but only for a few seconds, then it always reverts back to the lowest setting. Before all I had was defroster and that was just air blowing out when driving, not hot or cold, now I have all switches operating, except for the damn speed not staying up. I checked the connector by the dizzy and it's fine. What else could be bad?

My issue was the blower motor was bad, not any bad wires behind the control switches, I was not getting any air moving into the vents at all, maybe your blower motor might be going bad? Unless some else can give more input on a wire connection

Start this test with the blower speed control in the next to the highest setting.

Using a voltmeter, with long leads so you can see it in the cockpit, probe the
light blue wire at the resistor assembly.

When the blower is operating at the correct speed what is the voltage?

Then when the blower is operating at the slowest speed but the selector switch is still in the next to the highest setting what is the voltage?

Happy Racing!
