1985 camaro alternator wiring help
1985 camaro alternator wiring help
So my cars battery was dying while sitting overnight and I had to continuously charge it every day, I thought it was te battery so bought a new battery, ten it still continued. So I bought a new alternator thinking that was the problem. Still no luck. So I finally checked my battery cables and they were corroded so I figured I'd change then. Now the car was started and runnin then died while driving on me. So I assume I connected te wires wrong. Was lookin to see if someone can help me out with this, maybe show me a diagram? I have like 2 manuals but they aren't as helpful as I thought they'd be. Please I just really need help figuring this out, thanks for the help.

You didn’t say if the starting problem from a low battery is still present.
Add that info for further diagnosis.

Re: 1985 camaro alternator wiring help
The alternator doesn't keep charge, so when I charge the battery and turn the car on, it just dies because the car runs off the battery. And it was never a starting problem, just that the battery would completely die over night.

For the battery dying overnight sometimes the under-hood or hatch light does not go out so check those easy ones first.
Then connect an ammeter in series with the battery.
If there is more than 50 milliamps there is excessive draw.
(You can use a small bulb such as a side marker bulb if you don’t have an ammeter.)
Disconnect the alternator wires to see if IT’S the problem.
With everything turned off and doors closed observe the current flow.
Pull the fuses one at a time, including the pump fuse near the battery, till you see the current drop.
That’s the circuit with the problem
