helpful tips, horn replacement and fixing rear pull down motor
Ok so I am trying to get my car road ready. So far so good for the most part. Accept I am hearing bearing noise from the water pump.... RATS...
But anyway I just replaced the original horns with 2 supplied by Rock Auto. You will have to purchase bolts, nuts, flat and lock washers. The originals have a welded tab that is treaded for a screw. You can use the original connectors from the car, but you will have to mess around with the male tabs on the horns themselves to get the female connector to go in far enough.
For the rear pull down motor mine went bad so I again back to rock auto and I ordered the motor, housing and the relay as well for extra precaution. About 64 bucks.
I mounted it in and the unit that raises and lowers the rear hatch was in the lowered position. I put the new motor in and it only lowered a little more, nothing else. I confirmed all power was working, still could not get the motor to raise the main locking unit to grab the metal loop and pull it down to lock position.
Then it hit, take the motor out and turn the plastic gear until the metal arm that attaches to the main locking unit is in the up position or open position. I put the motor back in and WHAM it worked.
Just a tip, if you need to replace that motor, turn the plastic gear until the metal arm is fully pushed up. It will self adjust once you put it back together and close the rear hatch for the first time. Hope these tips help!!!
By the way, RockAuto is great for price and parts for the 3rd gen f body cars. The only draw back is wafting for the parts to come in.
