Alternator voltage regulator bad?

I replaced my 3-wire alternator which worked fine for ~1 day. The dash gauge showed that it was charging and a slight movement on the gauge as the motor reved. Then noticed the dash gauge was reading ~8 volts (right above the "red" lower limit on the guage.

Checked and found that the sensing wire had come disconnected. I have a battery kill switch, but forgot that the sensing wire was run directly to the battery. So I tried to reconnect and accidentally shorted betwee the alt case and connector and get a spark. .... disconnected the sensing wire at the battery, reconnected sensing wire, reconnected battery and now, I am still getting ~8 volts.

How can I determine if the voltage regulator got fried by my mistake?

Thanks! Brad

Start the car and measure with a multi meter.
