Intermittent volts to battery

Hi all,

Need some assistance witch which way to go about fault finding my 1991 Camaro.

At the beginning of this year, I fitted a new Alternator which cured my lack of charging. Since then I've been ever so happy to be starring at a positively 14v voltmeter. However a couple of weeks ago it started flickering for no obvious reason between 14.xV and around 12.8/13V. I thought it was just the needle messing around, but as I carried on driving the lower reading got lower and it occurred to be that was the non-charged battery voltage.

After doing a drive way test, having a meter on the Alternator output, a meter on the Battery and comparing those two with the volt meter on the dash. I seem to have an intermittent volt drop between the Alternator and the battery.

Where should I be looking for this? I can't see where the Alternator take off goes to, but the thick positive wire from the battery goes to the starter.

Now as a side note, I have recently also been having issues starting, where if I've been driving for a long time, the starter will be incredibly slow, some time non existent to turn over. Could this be connected in anyway?

Help much appreciated, as always!

The thick red wire goes from the alt stud to a fusible link, then to the batt.

You can wiggle the ends to find the intermittent.

Based on your post, it sounds like at the times of the lower voltage reading the batt is not being charged, therefore the slow cranking.

Happy Racing!
