Mass Air Flow to Manifold Air Pressure
I have a 1988 pontiac transam and the maf is being a pain in the ***. I recently discovered the speed density system used in the 1990 to 1992 model camaros/firebirds. I know I will need a new computer for it (730). I know I will have to replace the harness ( which actually prompted me looking in to this, the car sat and mice chewed up the injector wires). But I haves question what else will I have to do, will I have trouble with the vats system? Also with the new computer will I have to get a new mem cal computer chip? I don't know and doubt that the one from the 165 computer will work on the 730. What else will I need, besides ofcourse the map sensor itself. Could some one give me some pointers. And finally are there any drawbacks to the map system I.e. fuel consumption, idling rpm etc. thanks

Easiest is to get a custom memcal ( for MAP ) and have VATS deleted in that tune.
You can reuse all your MAF intake parts and just remote mount the MAP sensor with a hose to a vac port
If you get a stock MAP memcal then you will have to have some means of supplying the required VATS input so easiest to do as above
MAP works exactly the same as MAF until you start doing engine mods
