I had the column out and when I put it back in the security light was on so I bought a bypass for it and that shut the light off and it still wouldn't start then I let it sit for a few min then it turned over and started. After I shut it off it wouldn't turn over after it sat for a while it turned over again and started. Then same thing again.

 

Could it be the starter relay

 

VATS has a timer, if it doesn't see the resistors or reads them wrong then you have to wait 4 minutes until you can try again.
Every time you turn the key , the timer goes back to zero.

Check the wiring on your bypass resistors to make sure you have a good connection there

 

i looked last night and i don't have power to the relay but i have power to the ignition switch on the column.
