I have a 89 firebird that i put a carb350 out of an 83. My question is this....the plug for the alt in the wire harness will not work, different plug with 1 wire ( the alt off the 89 wont work, different mounting) and the alt on the 83 is that 2 wire----1(red) to the batt port on the alt, and then a brown wire goes to???? How do i hook up this alt?

a quick google search of ac delco SI alt.s will give you the results you want.
in a nutshell. red to battery. brown thru a resistor like a light bulb (I used an unused idiot light in my dash) to a switched source or it'll drain the battery.
double check me. I went from an SI to a CS (the opposite direction you went) I like the single belt setup so much better.

 

Hey thanks for your help! On the C100 plug, the A4 (power distribution ignition switch) was the only wire in the original alt plug, could i use that to connect to the brown wire?

 

If the brown wire is key/ignition switched power then you can most likely use it. However, I'd recommend putting a resistor of around 150 ohm in series between the brown wire and the alternator regulator terminal #1.

In some cases the resistor isn't necessary but I don't believe it will hurt anything to put it in so better safe than sorry. Without the resistor (where needed) the regulator can be damaged when there is no or low output if there is nothing to limit the current supplied by the excitation circuit. That same current limiting function provided by the resistor is also a byproduct of the alternator idiot light on vehicles so equipped.
