1985 Camaro. No air bag, aftermarket steering wheel already installed.
While driving, if I put my left turn signal on, it immediately turns off with any slight bump or turn of the steering wheel. The right turn signal stays on, but then doesn't shut off after turning. I'm trying to figure out what parts to replace, I'd like to get them ahead of time if possible. Any thoughts on what I should get? Or am I better off pulling it apart & looking to see? Not opposed to replacing multiple parts as I'm pretty sure everything in the column is original. Thanks.

I have taken the steering column apart only once but what you are probably looking at is a problem with the turn signal cam that might work only one way and not the other.
Hopefully somebody else will chime in with more experience with the steering column but it is not a bad idea to pull the wheel off, it really doesn't take more than a few minutes in your case with the aftermarket wheel. Then you can see what's going on in there.

Sounds like the Cancel Cam inside the column to me too. There are little springs inside it that keep the cancelling 'pin' centered and one of them probably broke.

Try tighten the screws holding the turn signal switch down. It worked for me when my lever wouldn't cancel itself.

Hi all
can anyone pls explain what you need to do to get at the "turn signal switch" arm to tighten, I think 87rattler is referring to? Mine won't cancel on left turn but right works fine.
the lever does appear to be a little loose so I thought I'd try this if it's easy to get at
thank you
