Heres one for the guru's !!!!
1986 T/A, no computer, all new starter and alt. I did search the posts here but found nothing like this problem. My gauges in the car say that Im running at 10 volts. A factory gauge and an aftermarket say the same thing.
The belt is new and tight, I get 13.8 volts at the battery from a volt meter when running, but the gauges say different in the car. The battery is new at 12 volts when off.
Any idea on the inside gauges acting funny? Scares me to take this car long distance.
Thanks for any help guys !!!
Rich

I'm no Guru....lol but I'd check the grounding source for your gauge, and your connections again on all your recent electrical. A bad ground can and will give false readings at the gauge, if you have a voltmeter you can check the wires that lead up to the gauge to see if your gauges are accurate. When you changed the alternator did you put the ground from the battery back in the right place using the right serrated washer?

Grounds, grounds, grounds.
They should all be shiny, paint free and tight. First of all your alternator should read 14-14.4 volts. That leads me to believe you have a weak frame and block ground. If this is a race car, use 4ga wire. I wire neg battery cable to the frame, then another from frame to block.
That's how I wire any drag car, never had a car come back.
Good luck!

Check the smaller guage wire leading away from the negative battery cable ( @ the battery end ) and leads to the body right next to the battery.
Might be worth double checking the fusible links @ trhe starter too...... these can look fine - but the wires often corode inside the coating.

there is only one wire on the negative side of the battery, and that is mounted to the block. I got the car this way.............didn't know that there were more involved. Could that be the problem, and where would this other neg wire ground to ?
thanks !
thanks !
