pinned Fuel gauge after replacing illumination lights?
pinned Fuel gauge after replacing illumination lights?
ok so here is the deal. i was messing with the car. got my temp gauge to work so that wasn't pinned all the to the max
I removed the entire cluster out of the car because i need to get in there to pull out the temp gauge.
I had some LED lights laying around that i put in for the illumination lights.
ever since i did that my fuel gauge is pegged now.
Doesn't go down when the car is off.
goes over full when the turn the key on
I took the cluster out several times. bent the prongs up on the connectors
i am at a complete loss on this.
my fuel gauge always work until i had to mess with it tonight
any ideas?

You can try manually lowering it a bit. I had a similar problem after cleaning gauges, adding LED lights etc. I manually lowered it and then topped off the gas tank at which time it went back to full on the gage. I reset my trip meter to watch when it would go down. It showed full for at least 100 miles then started to lower. At 200 it was about half then started going down quick. Try this method yourself and see what happens.

Ok so basically drive it?
Shitty part is my trip doesn't work and the car has like a Quater tank. Ill let it go for a bit and put a few miles on it

Re: pinned Fuel gauge after replacing illumination lights?
I just had the SAME EXACT thing happen.
FYI: When there is a break in the circuit the needle will "PEG" past full when the key is turned to RUN. If there is a break in the circuit it could be a bad ground wire, bad gauge, bad printed circuit, bad sending unit, or bad wiring.
My recent fuel gauge problem was much simpler than all that. I started my 86Z and the gas gauge needle ( that was working fine ) stayed pegged past full. It should swing to the MAX value when the key is turned to START - but it just stuck at the top of the scale. When I turned off the car and turned the key back to RUN the needle did not drop and re-starting the car didn't change anything.
The cause; the needle got stuck / caught on the black metal bezel under the clear lens.
Once I pulled off the lens & bezel off the cluster the needle fell back to the bottom of the scale. When I turned the key to RUN it moved up normally to show the correct amount of fuel in the tank.
Once I re-installed everything the needle got stuck past full again !
What I did to resolve the problem was to rip the top of a matchbook in 1/2 and then fold each piece a couple times. I placed these 2 pieces of paper behind the 2 top /center mounting holes of the bezel creating a tiny bit of additional space the needle needed. Once everything was re-reinstalled, it works normally again.
Hope that helps !

Re: pinned Fuel gauge after replacing illumination lights?
Ok so I'm looking for a break
My temp gushed was getting stuck that's why I tore it apart from the start I fixed that but now its my fuel guage
My fuel Gauge isn't. Getting stuck it just climbs up. Tried a different gaugeu have same thing.
My guess would be a tear in the printed circuit board the back
What do I Do if that's the case? ?
Do I need a new cluster or is there a wayto repair the tear if there is one.
