GPS Speed Sender
Anyone use a gps speed sender? Not sure how but my mechanical vss's keep dying so i'm gonna upgrade. I'm thinking of using the dakota digital gps-50-1, just wondering if anyone has any input for me before i spend the money. Also, does the computer need any input from the vss (car is a standard) or can i just run the gps signal right to the speedometer?

Re: GPS Speed Sender
Thank you. That brings another question, does the computer do anything with the signal conversion wise or can I run an 8000 pulse signal from the gps sender through what would be the vss buffer output to the ecm and still get the same reading on my gauge? If not, can I not use a gps sender? Thanks in advance

Re: GPS Speed Sender
Offering a user selectable output of 4k, 8k, 16k PPM signals and a selectable signal type of a Sine Wave or Square Wave, the flexibility is endless. "
Your ECM requires a 4K VSS input so you should be right.
Select 4k , connect the GPS output to the ECM VSS terminals and then the ECM will output the speedo signal to the cluster as it does stock ?

Okay thank you. This may be a dumb question but I need to output an 8k signal for my aftermarket cluster, would it not be advisable to run an 8k signal to the ecm instead of 4k?

Re: GPS Speed Sender
I appreciate the help, but it looks like the solution is simpler than that. It appears that I can split the signal as needed using the sgi-5 box. The only problem I am having now is that I don't seem to be getting any signal out of the gps-50 box when hooked up either to the sgi-5 or directly to my speedometer. Not sure if anyone has successfully installed one of these but any help would be appreciated!
