Ignition Switch Help???

so i just got my camaro running again and ran into an issue with my ignition. my key was stuck in between lock and start and with a little more force i ended up breaking something. i thought at first i broke the tumbler off so i replaced the lock and tumbler hoping that would fix it ... no big deal. but after i installed the new lock and tumbler i still get no cranking over or anything. after some research i found that i probably have a bad ignition switch. i have also read that its located in the steering column. is there any way to replace this with out taking my steering column apart??? or have i potentialy misdiagnosed the problem all together? any tips or suggestions would be well appreciated as always. thanks

Do you feel resistance when you turn the key or just free play?

Re: Ignition Switch Help???

its just free play. i finally found the ignition switch and replaced it... well most of it. i ran out of daylight and had to pause till tomorrow. but yeah its just free play with the ignition. also when i had the ignition lock out i could turn the rod that starts the car and id get nothing at all. if its not the ignition switch i dont know what else it could be. it is a bit odd that there is no resistance when i try to crank it over.i fear the worst... please any tips would be well appreciated . Thanks again

Re: Ignition Switch Help???

thanks antares57.... after replacing my ignition switch which had signs of an overheat or some sort of surge of electricity at some point i still couldent get it to crank over.after reading the other thread i discovered that my actuator actually broke on one side and that turned out to be the primary issue. thanks for your help all how tried. ill see ya on the road AGAIN
