Speedo quits working sometimes

Car is a 92z with a L98 and 700R4. The speedometer will sometimes stop working and the car starts running like crap. It'll come back and go out aswell. It doesn't happen all the time, so Im wondering what it could be.

Only code was a 33, so i'll be looking at the MAP sensor tomorrow but im pretty sure thats unrelated.

If you don't have a code 24 VSS error code
http://www.chevythunder.com/vss_code_24_sd_199092.htm

then your problem is likely the speedo or the wiring to it from the ECM.

In your car ,the VSS input goes to the ECM 1st , then the speedo signal is outputted to the cluster
