Gauge rebuild

Anyone know of a company that rebuild stock clusters. I know I can get aftermarket gauges but I like my stock one. My tach and speedometer is not working right. My tach pins out to 7 grand when I start it. It moves when I start the car. Can it be a wiring problem? My speedometer work also but is 15 mph off. It moves also on start up and going down the road. I have a accel hei cap on the distributor. Can I use a v6 cluster in a v8? Any ideas to help fix it?

Re: Gauge rebuild

Search Tach repair there is user on here that will repair tach for like $30
I am sending 2 of them to him:
gcj280 is the user

My speed was off then stopped. i just replaced the cable from autozone like $11 it was ismple and now it works no problems

My Gas ssems to work, good enough for non DD, my battery moves too but my Temp and OIL are wacked just sit pegged out even with car off.

I really want those 2 to work! Love ot find replacment gauges that i can bolt into the those 1.5" splaces

I do have a 3d printer so I can reprint a new gauge face or spacers for the gauges if they are different just need something to reuse the existing sensors.

IMHO only the speedo is critical to keep for simplicity since it feeds back to the ECM. All the other gauges are just for reference.
If I can replace the tacj with a nice one tha has temp/oil/battery etc within the RPM face is simple digital LCD or something I would just bolt that in and wire up.

Ok thanks for the tip for the tach. I never tried replaced the cable yet I'll try that. My oil and temp are pegged too. My temp wasn't hooked up and after I did it worked for a day then pegged. My oil isn't hooked up either. So I don't know if it a gauge or wire problem. I don't have a ECM so it's either gauge or a wire problem. I have a extra cluster out of a v6. I'm try replace the harness to

unhook the cable from the speedo and then slowly drive the car and feel if the inner cable is turning.

Re: Gauge rebuild

The speedo can be off if the rear end gears or tire diameter has been changed. The fix for that would be either the correct tire diameter or changing the gear in the transmission. A bad cable sometimes causes the needle to bounce up and down.

You may have a bad ground, or the cluster may not be original. Did it originally come with gauges or idiot lights?

There are threads like this for tachometer repair if you're interested in fixing it yourself.

A V6 tach will not work with a V8, but it may be possible to convert it. The V6 also has a different redline if that matters to you. If you have a tachometer outside of the car it's pretty easy to hook up with three test leads. Power, ground and the tach signal from the distributor.

You could try contacting gcj280 and possibly swapping. It looks like he buys, repairs, and sells them.
