Losing charge
Losing charge
So the other day I take the car to work(92 rs 350 carb swap hack job) and the fuel pump goes out right after I fill up at the gas station. So keep in mind that before hand it ran perfectly smooth. It is located $300 tow from home and it is freezing cold out.
I did the most rediculous thing and sent it to the shop across the street(always fix your own stuff) So they replace the fuel pump and call me to say it is done and ready. I go to pick it up and they say its all good.
Well it starts just fine but is running very rough and at high rpms (3000) I am thinking ok its 10 degrees out she is just cold. I get down the road a bit and it sounds as if it will explode so I pull over and pop the hood, the pressure guage is burried at 12psi.
I take the car back to the shop and throw a fit that they didnt put the regulator back on and they replace it for free and send me on my way.
About 30 miles down the hwy i notice my dash getting dim and look at the volt meter and it is steady dropping. I make it almost home when it dies.
I jump it and it is weak but enough to make it the next mile to the house. I left it run and it drained out and died again.
Now this is even more wierd about two hours later I go to mess with it and it turns over reluctantly. After letting it run for a bit the meter is back up so I kick on the lights, heat, blinker, radio ect... and it starts dropping again.
What on earth do you guys think these people did to my car or do you think it is just coincidence and time for a new alt and battery.(they are very old)?

Re: Losing charge
With a hack job it would be beneficial for you [if the battery and alternator check out] to start repairing the hacked up wiring harness.
