Replacing the VSS buffer

My Speedometer is not working and I believe I have narrowed it down to a bad VSS Buffer. I already replaced the speed sensor on the transmission and the gauges seem to be in good shape. My question is can I use any GM VSS Buffer? I have a 92 Camaro RS 305 TBI. I cant seem to find any vehicle specific VSS Buffers anywhere and I was just curious if any GM VSS Buffer would do the trick.

Re: Replacing the VSS buffer

Before I go and buy a new VSS buffer I just want to make sure that is what the issue is. The Speed sensor is working. I connected it to a multi meter and it was reading that is is getting current. There is power going to the cluster and to the VSS. The only thing that does not seem to have any power is the wire that goes from the VSS Buffer to the speedometer. It is not registering anything on my multi meter. I was just wondering if that is the best way to test it or not.

Re: Replacing the VSS buffer

What setting did you use on your DMM to measure the signal? It should be set to AC volts in this case, due to the type of signal.

Re: Replacing the VSS buffer

I used the AC setting to measure the VSS. Should I also use AC to measure the output from the VSS Buffer to the Speedo?
