Starter system wiring
New post for my new project on the 84 Z28. I've started tackling the wiring which goes with the C100 connector and all the wiring in the car. So right now as the car stands, I have gotten all the connectors for the gauges wired up and they are working. My tachometer always spikes up to 7000 when I start the car, so I'm not sure what that's about, but I heard there was supposed to a resitor from the coil to the tachometer. Next big problem I'm tackling is the ignition system. I am putting in an MSD distributor which needs a switched power source to the coil when starting, so I'm not sure if I can use the other wire which originally gave power to the distributor. Whenever I measured the voltage from it, it read 10V, but when I turned the key to the run position it read 12V. I'd like to use this stock wire for the new distributor's coil, but I'm not sure that it's wired right to where it should always have power, or if it should have no power when the ignition switch is off, then 12V when it is switched to run. Last question I have for this part is about a wire that comes off the starter. This car at the moment has a red stereo power wire coming from the starter and being spliced into a yellow wire which I think goes to the ignition switch. Is that where it is supposed to be connected from the factor, or is it way off? Thanks for any help, it's really appreciated.

Use a low cost analogue meter for this type of measuring.
