fuel gauge not working
Just bought the car, guy I bought it from said the guy before him put a new tank in it but the gauge never worked for him... Could it be he didn't plug something in or could it be the wiring behind the gauge itself?

Re: fuel gauge not working
sending unit might be out in the tank, or possibly he didn't hook anything back up when he swapped out the tank. If it were me I'd use a multimeter on the gauge and if it works then drop your tank and see what's up inside of it.

Re: fuel gauge not working
to test the gauge you would need a potentiometer that can adjust from 0-90 Ohms
hook the leads up to the gauge and slowly dial it up and down, if the gauge moves up and down with the potentiometer it is good
as far as the wiring goes, crawl under the car, reach your hand up by where the back seats would be, there is a 3 wire connector that plugs in there, that is where the signal comes from and goes to the gauge, you can do a continuity check using a multimeter and some long extension wires, this will make sure there is not a break or short in the wire without having to rip the interior apart
it is most likely a bad sending unit, you can buy a replacement Hanger with a sending unit on it for around $120, i got mine with a pump installed already for that price, installed the unit myself, took me a few hours

Re: fuel gauge not working
If it has regular gauges yes, but if it has digital gauges then I'm not sure.
The stuff about the wires under the car and replacing the sending unit is universal though.
If you have to buy a sending unit, I vote buying it from RockAuto.com, or another online vendor, local places like autozone or advance will want to charge you more than double what those guys usually charge.
